The challenge
Without a baseline of reef health, it was impossible to measure change, set protection priorities or design marine protected areas.
What we did
- — Surveyed reef sites along the Puntland coast with Somali and international divers.
- — Recorded coral cover, fish diversity and threats with standard methods.
- — Mapped findings with GIS and shared them with the Ministry.
Results
- The first comprehensive reef baseline for Puntland
- Evidence to inform marine protected area planning
- A dataset for long-term monitoring
