GIZ/BMZ-funded SEIPP Green Cities plan for Garowe
SEIPP Green Cities Plan, Garowe
An urban greening plan for Garowe funded by GIZ on behalf of BMZ.
The challenge
Garowe is growing fast and getting hotter, with little shade, scarce water and few public green spaces.
What we did
- — Mapped heat, land use and green space across the city using GIS.
- — Consulted residents, municipal teams and businesses on priorities.
- — Developed a costed plan for tree planting, shade, water harvesting and public spaces.
Results
- A practical, costed green city plan for Garowe
- Priority sites identified for early planting
- A model for other Somali municipalities
