Completing the first comprehensive coral reef baseline survey of Puntland

Our divers have documented reef health along Puntland's coast for the first time, creating an evidence base for marine protection.

Until now, there was no comprehensive record of the coral reefs along Puntland's coastline. Without a baseline, it is impossible to measure change, set protection priorities or design marine protected areas.

TerraGap's survey teams, including Somali divers trained through our PADI dive school, recorded coral cover, fish diversity and threats across multiple sites. Every data point was field-verified and mapped.

The findings are being shared with the Puntland Ministry of Fisheries & Marine Resources to inform future marine spatial planning and protection measures.
